The Rhine has many faces. On the banks of Markermeer you will find the vibrant city of Amsterdam, which you will experience on our northbound cruise. The Lower Rhine region is characterised by flatlands and fields. Quite different to the “romantic Rhine” on our southbound route. The river breaks its way through the Rhenish Slate Mountains to enter the incomparably beautiful UNESCO World Heritage region of the Middle Rhine Valley. This region is famous for the many castles atop the hills on both banks, and for the Lorelei Rock. Countless songs, including the Song of the Nibelungs about Siegfried the dragon slayer, have been written about this section of the river.
